Before arranging secondhand furniture delivery, confirm that the item can leave the seller's home and enter yours. A good purchase can become an awkward move if the carrying route has not been checked.

Collect dimensions and access details

Ask for the item's height, width and depth, plus whether it can be dismantled. Obtain photographs of its condition, the seller's doorway and any tight stairs or landings. Take the same measurements at your destination.

Clarify who dismantles the item, supplies missing hardware and reassembles it. Do not assume a seller's “pickup only” listing includes help carrying to the vehicle.

Coordinate three parties

Agree on a collection window with the seller, then confirm that the mover can meet it. Share the exact location privately and establish who will release the item. Keep the sales agreement and moving agreement distinct.

Photograph the item before collection and inspect it on arrival. Existing marks should be recorded so they are not confused with possible transport damage.

Can I pay the seller only after the mover arrives?

That depends on the sale arrangement. Settle payment and handover expectations directly with the seller before dispatch.

What if measurements are uncertain?

Resolve them before booking or purchasing. A photo without scale cannot reliably prove that a sofa will fit through a doorway.
