If your old home must be vacated before the new one is ready, plan storage as a two-stage move. Confirm collection, storage conditions and redelivery together rather than budgeting only for the first truck journey.
Define the gap
Write down the earliest and latest likely delivery dates. List anything you will need during storage and keep it with you if retrieval would be inconvenient or unavailable.
Ask the storage provider about permitted items, packing requirements, access arrangements, environmental conditions and the process for extending the period. Do not assume that “indoor storage” means a particular humidity control or unrestricted access.
Track the handovers
Make an inventory with box numbers and photographs of important items. Confirm which business receives the goods and which business redelivers them. Ask how changes or damage concerns should be reported at each stage.
Compare the complete scope: collection, handling, storage period, any access visit and final delivery. Confirm destination access again before redelivery, especially if the property was not ready when the original booking was made.
Can I collect one box halfway through?
Ask before booking. Some arrangements may not provide convenient individual-item access.
What if my key handover is delayed again?
Contact the provider before the agreed period ends and obtain a revised storage and delivery arrangement in writing.
