A shared-house move works best with a personal inventory and an agreed collection window. Shared kitchens and storage areas make it especially easy to pack somebody else's belongings by mistake.
Agree on ownership before packing
Review shared purchases with your housemates. Write down which items you will take and how disputed items will be handled. This is particularly important for furniture, routers and appliances bought jointly.
Gather your belongings from common areas before the crew arrives. Use a consistent label color or your initials on your boxes, and keep other residents' items out of the collection area where practical.
Protect normal access
Tell housemates when movers are expected and which paths need to stay clear. Ask the building contact about vehicle and elevator access. Give the mover the exact room or floor, not just the shared house's street address.
Keep your key-return and room-inspection arrangements separate from the moving booking. If another tenant stays, confirm which utility or internet accounts actually need changing instead of canceling a shared service automatically.
Can I leave unwanted belongings for the next tenant?
Only with explicit agreement. Otherwise arrange removal through an appropriate disposal or transfer route.
What if a housemate is moving too?
Ask whether one coordinated booking is possible and document each person's destination and inventory separately.
